EDUCATION
Dear Reader,

During my first 2 years at the University of Washington, I was not clear on what I wanted to pursue for a Major or what career path I wished to get into. Spring quarter of my sophomore year is where this all changed. I took a Intro to Urbanization class which really fascinated me. It was that class that pushed me to apply for a Planning Internship at the City Hall from my home town as well as apply to the Community, Environment, and Planning Major here at the UW. During my two years in CEP, I gained knowledge and skills in Urban Planning, Sustainability, Geographical Information Systems, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Ethics.

Internship Goals
SKILLS

Through my internship I was hoping to learn the skills that are needed in a planning career. I was able to intern with the City of Carnation as a Planning Intern as well as a Management Intern full time during summer of 2017 and 2018 and part time during the school year. I learned how governments work and all the puzzle pieces of running a successful government. As a Management Analyst, i assisted the City Manager with a variety of Budget and comparative service/cost analyses for the 2018 City of Carnation Budget. I developed: "Cost of Country Living" comparing municipal taxes and utility fees for Carnation and surrounding communities; research on Streets and Parks Impact Fees and comparative costs; assisted with the development of the City's "Road Map" outlining the Council's Vision, Values, Strategies and Goals; and was the editor of the City's 8-page Special Report. As a Planning Intern, I worked with the City Planner and City Clerk in updates to Carnation's Comprehensive Plan, Capital Facilities Plan elements and long-range Growth Forecast. I also assisted with the Tolt Avenue Downtown Revitalization street project design and economic development efforts. I was involved in Current Planning, pre-development reviews and took lead on a Short Plat development review. I was able to get Urban Planning experience as well as other experience in the Local Government environment.
